The Professor and Al set out to investigate, and along the way, they visit the “Miss Piggy” of village gossip, May O’Clary. She gives them their first clue on their quest to restore Al’s sense of smell to its former glory.
They travel deep into the forest to Oliver Fish Owl’s tree house, where they share in a wonderful feast. Alouishus even gets a dose of rose hips for his ailment from the wise old herbal specialist. Later, they visit farmer Upton Clydesdale, who convinces Alouishus to give his coat a thorough soap scrubbing, which makes Al sweat profusely.
Finally, on the way home, they stop at Baxter Tidwell’s general store. While drinking a root beer, Alouishus suddenly realizes that his sense of smell has returned, and consequently, their case is solved.
